Campfire Tips

Campers! Be sure to completely extinguish your campfire before going to bed or leaving camp. Always have a shovel and a bucket of water near to the fire pit. To extinguish the fire, use the shovel to separate and break apart burning wood, pour water over the wood and the embers (don't get burned by the steam!) and use the shovel to mix the water and the hot coals together. Don't leave the campsite until there is no more smoke showing and the drowned coals are cool to the touch.

Also, remember that campfires are only allowed in fire pits in designated campgrounds. Never burn garbage; either put trash into garbage cans at the campground or take the trash home with you for disposal. Help to Keep Oregon Green.
