Noon Update: Jackson County Lightning Fires

Oregon Dept. of Forestry Medford Unit firefighters found 16 lightning-caused fires in the northeastern quadrant of Jackson county. The largest fire is the 4-acre Rocky Flat Fire, located near Cobleigh Rd northwest of Butte Falls. The rest of the fires have been kept at three-quarters of an acre or smaller.

The smoke has thinned considerably allowing ODF to use more helicopters and an airplane. This also has improved visibility for fire lookouts on the east side of the county.

In Josephine County, thick smoke has made fire detection difficult, but no new lightning-caused fires have been reported on ODF-protected lands.
