Lightning Strikes Scattered Across NE Jackson County

An early morning thunderstorm scattered many lightning strikes across the Cascade Range in northeast Jackson County. Firefighters from the Oregon Dept. of Forestry's Medford Unit are working to contain a 4-acre fire near Cobleigh Rd in the Butte Falls area. Seven other smokes have been reported by fire lookouts and other sources. A helicopter is now flying over this region on a reconnaissance flight. A second helicopter is taking off to drop water wherever it is needed.

Lightning strikes were also recorded near the Soda Mtn. Wilderness in the southeast part of Jackson County, and in northeast Josephine County.
