Rogue River Wild and Scenic Corridor Closure

EMERGENCY CLOSURE OF PUBLIC LANDS: Curry and Josephine Counties, Oregon

AGENCY: Bureau of Land Management, Medford District, Grants Pass Resource Area Office, Oregon

ACTION: Emergency closure of public land in Curry and Josephine Counties, Oregon

SUMMARY: The Medford District, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is giving notice that the Rogue River Wild and Scenic Corridor will remain temporarily closed until further notice to provide for public health and safety due to extreme fire conditions in the area.
The closed area is located in Township 34 South, Range 8 West, Sections 1, 2, 5, and 6; Township 34 South, Range 9 West, Section 1; Township 33 South, Range 8 West, Section 32-35; Township 33 South, Range 9 West, Sections 16-18, 21-23, 26, 35, and 36; and Township 33 South, Range 10 West, Section 9-14. Willamette meridian. All entry will be restricted during this temporary closure in order to protect persons, property, and the public lands and resources pursuant to 43 CFR 9268.3(d)(1)(i).BLM will post closure signs at main entry points to this area. You may obtain maps of the closure area and information from the Grants Pass Field Office.

DATES: This closure will be in effect from July 31, 2013 at 12:01 A.M., until rescinded.

DISCUSSION OF THE RULES: Under the authority of 43 CFR 9268.3(d)(1)(i), BLM will enforce the following rule on public lands within the closed area:
-You must not enter the closed area.

EXEMPTIONS: Persons who are exempt from these rules include:
-Any Federal, State, or local officer or employee in the scope of their duties;
-Members of any organized rescue or fire-fighting force in performance of an official duty; and
-Any person authorized in writing by the Bureau of Land Management.

PENALTIES: The authorities for this closure are section 303(a) of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (43 U.S.C. 1733(a)) and 43 CFR 9268.3 as applicable. Any person who violates this closure may be tried before a United States Magistrate and fined no more than $1,000 or imprisoned for no more than 12 months, or both. Such violations may also be subject to the enhanced fines provided for by 18 U.S.C. 3571.
