Bear Camp Road Open

The Bear Camp Road is now officially open for the 2012 recreation season. Due to lower levels of snow this year, road crews have made quick progress of plowing the road. All seasonal gate closures, including gates off the Peavine-Serpentine and Galice Access Roads, have been lifted. Motorists are advised to use caution when driving through slide areas.

Not all forest roads have been maintained or checked after the winter season. National Forest visitors are advised to drive with caution and avoid using less traveled roads that may not be clear of snow.

Good preparation and driving habits are important when traveling on forest roads, as weather and road conditions change rapidly. Be prepared with extra blankets, food and water, clothing and emergency equipment. When driving, keep lights on, speed down and be prepared to stop for oncoming traffic, particularly on blind corners.
