Little Applegate Road Fire Burns 24 Acres

Around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) received a report of a grass fire at 5577 Little Applegate Road. Nearly 40 firefighters were called to the scene: Six Applegate Fire District #9 engines, Six ODF engines, a dozer and a Forest Service engine. Within a few hours, the fire was estimated to be 24 acres. There were no injuries reported and no homes were threatened.


At 9 p.m. the fire was 99% dozer lined. The engine crews continued working until 12 a.m. with the addition of an eight-person ODF hand crew. The crew completed the remainder of the fire line throughout the night.

Early this morning four ODF engines and a hand crew relieved the night crew to begin mopping up the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
