The Bureau of Land Management's Medford District will conduct an underburn today on approximately 150 acres near Star in the Applegate Valley. The burn will be staffed by 25 firefighters from BLM, Forest Service, and contractors. Ignition will begin at noon and initially there will be smoke visible from Applegate Road and the Star area. Smoke should diminish quickly with little residual smoke left by nightfall. The burn should be completed by 4;00 PM.
This is a winter burn which means sunny southern exposures that will carry fire until the shade line stops the spread. The fuels are light, primarily grasses and shrubs. The burn is being conducted to reduce hazardous fuels.
