A fast-moving wildfire broke out late Friday west of O'Brien in southern Josephine County. The fire is on Lone Mountain and is estimated at 250 acres. The fire started around 6:45 p.m. on Bureau of Land Management land, protected by the Oregon Dept. of Forestry, and crossed onto the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. An incident management team has been ordered to oversee suppression of the fire.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
How did the fire get started?
ReplyDeleteWould love to see a map of ALL fires, not just "large" ones. Neighbors need to know!
ReplyDeletethank you for any and all updates
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I live in Yreka, California and have watched the smoke come in since this morning (Sept. 10th). We no longer can see Mt. Shasta and Shasta Valley is obliterated by the smoke. It must be a very fast moving fire because we rarely get smoke from fires in southern Oregon. At the rate that the smoke is consuming Siskiyou County, by tomorrow we will be extremely smoky. I pray that the firefighters contain the fire quickly and that all involved are safe when it's out.
ReplyDeleteBeing that this is the weekend of September 11, 2001, let us all be thankful for the police and firefighters that put their lives on the line to keep us safe. May God bless each and every one of them.
