Crews Stop Brush Fire at 1.5 Acres

A swarm of engines and a pair of helicopters stopped a brush fire south of Cave Junction at 1.5 acres. The fire, which broke out shortly after 3:00 p.m. near the intersection of Redwood Hwy and Rockydale Rd, briefly threatened structures while it burned through dry grass, brush and thickets of young trees.

Five ODF engines and up to 10 apparatus from the Illiniois Valley Fire District quickly knocked down the flames, then established a fire line around the edge. By 4:00 p.m, the firefighters remaining on scene were mopping up smokes.

No structures were damaged by the fire.
